両替所
The Currency Exchange
旅行者のエリックは東京に到着したばかりだ。成田空港を出てすぐのところにある両替所で、彼は日本円を手に入れることにした。スーツケースを片手に、カウンターに向かう。「いらっしゃいませ。両替ですか？」と、笑顔のスタッフが声をかけた。エリックは軽くうなずいて、カバンから財布を取り出した。「はい、これを日本円に変えてください。」彼はアメリカドルの札束をカウンターに置いた。スタッフは手際よく札を数えながら、「今日はドルから円へのレートが1ドル150円です。手数料は5％いただきますが、よろしいですか」と説明した。エリックは少し考えてから、「大丈夫です。それでお願いします」と答えた。「かしこまりました。それではこちらで計算しますね。」スタッフは電卓を使いながら、計算結果をエリックに示した。「こちらが手数料を引いた金額で、75,000円になります。ご確認ください。」「はい、確認しました。」エリックは笑顔で答えた。スタッフはすぐに円の紙幣を数え始め、きちんとまとめてエリックに手渡した。「75,000円、確認をお願いします。」エリックは紙幣を丁寧に数えた後、「問題ないです。ありがとうございます」と言った。「ありがとうございました。良い旅をお過ごしください！」とスタッフが挨拶すると、エリックは「ありがとうございます。」とお辞儀をして、その場を後にした。財布に収めた新しい日本円を見ながら、エリックは心の中でつぶやいた。「これで、日本の旅が本格的に始まるな。」
Eric, a traveler, has just arrived in Tokyo. He decides to get some Japanese yen at a currency exchange office just outside Narita Airport. With suitcase in hand, he heads for the counter. "Welcome." "Currency exchange?" A smiling staff member asked. Eric nodded and took out his wallet from his bag. "Yes, please change this into Japanese yen." He placed a wad of American dollars on the counter. The staff member deftly counted the bills and said, “The exchange rate from dollars to yen today is 150 yen to the dollar." "We will charge you a 5% commission, is that okay?” he explained. Eric thought for a moment and then said, “That's fine." "That's all I ask," he answered. "Sure thing." "Let me do the calculations for you." The staff member used a calculator to show Eric the results of the calculation. "This is the amount minus the handling charge, which is 75,000 yen." "Please confirm." "Yes, sure thing." Eric replied with a smile. The staff immediately began counting the yen bills, neatly collecting them and handing them to Eric. "Please confirm the 75,000 yen." Eric carefully counted the bills and then said, “No problem." "Thank you very much," he said. "Thank you very much." "Have a nice trip," the staff told Eric, who responded with a “Thank you very much." Eric bowed and left. Looking at the new Japanese yen in his wallet, Eric muttered to himself: “Now my trip to Japan can really begin.
