Shopping for Edible Souvenirs
Mr. Takahashi entered a souvenir store in Asakusa, Tokyo. The store was crowded with tourists, selling a variety of Japanese sweets and rare foods. Mr. Takahashi approached the clerk standing at the counter. “Excuse me, what kind of rice cracker is this?" The clerk replied smilingly. “This one is soy sauce-flavored." "It is popular for its crispy texture and savory flavor." "I also recommend the wasabi flavor." "It's a little spicy, but it's a very unique flavor." "The wasabi flavor sounds interesting." "But I'm also looking for something sweet." "I'd like to have a lot of it to give away to my friends." The clerk pointed to a shelf. "How about this boxed yokan?" "They come in small portions and are easy to carry." "They come in two flavors, matcha and brown sugar." "Sounds good." "I'll have the matcha flavor." "And I'll have the wasabi rice cracker you just mentioned, too, please." The clerk asked as he put the items in the bag. "Do you want them wrapped as souvenirs?” Mr. Takahashi thought for a moment. "Yes, please." "And what is the shelf life of these?" “They will last about a month, so they make great souvenirs for people far from home.” Mr. Takahashi thanked her with a reassuring look on his face. "Thank you very much." "I'm sure these will please you,” the clerk replied with a smile. "Enjoy your trip!" Mr. Takahashi left the store with his shopping bag in his hand. Walking along the busy streets of Asakusa, he thought of the smiling faces of his friends.
