ウィキッドの物語は、「オズの魔法使い」の裏側を描いた興味深いストーリーです。
The story of Wicked is an interesting story about the other side of The Wizard of Oz.
最初は、オズ国の学校で出会う二人の少女の友情が中心に展開されます。
At first, it revolves around the friendship of two girls who meet at a school in the Land of Oz.
一人は緑色の肌を持つエルファバ、もう一人は美しくて人気者のグリンダ。
One is the green-skinned Elphaba and the other is the beautiful and popular Glinda.
この二人がどのようにして出会い、親しくなるのかが物語の鍵です。
How these two girls meet and become close friends is the key to the story.
エルファバは、生まれつき緑色の肌を持っており、周りから疎まれています。
Elphaba was born with green skin and is shunned by those around her.
しかし彼女には強力な魔法の才能があり、彼女の目的は偉大なオズの魔法使いに会って、妹ネッサローズのために助けを求めることです。
But she has a powerful magical talent and her goal is to meet the great Wizard of Oz and ask for help for her sister Nessa Rose.
一方でグリンダは、華やかで誰からも愛される存在。
Glinda, on the other hand, is gorgeous and loved by everyone.
最初、二人は全く気が合いません。
At first, the two do not get along at all.
同じ部屋のルームメイトになったことで、お互いの違いが浮き彫りになります。
Their differences are highlighted when they become roommates in the same room.
学校生活の中で、エルファバの魔法の力が注目され、校長のマダム・モリブルから特別にオズの魔法使いに会えるよう手配されます。
During their time at school, Elphaba's magical powers are noticed and the principal, Madame Morrible, arranges for her to meet the Wizard of Oz on a special occasion.
その知らせを受け、エルファバは希望に満ち溢れます。
The news fills Elphaba with hope.
同時に、グリンダとエルファバは意外な形で友情を育んでいきます。
At the same time, Glinda and Elphaba develop a friendship in an unexpected way.
二人は性格も目標も異なるものの、互いの良さを少しずつ理解し始めるのです。
Although they have different personalities and goals, they gradually begin to understand each other's strengths.
やがて、オズの魔法使いに会うため、エルファバとグリンダはエメラルドシティへ向かいます。
Eventually, Elphaba and Glinda travel to the Emerald City to meet the Wizard of Oz.
しかし、エルファバは魔法使いが純粋に善良な人物ではないことを知ってしまいます。
However, Elphaba discovers that the Wizard is not a genuinely good man.
魔法使いは自分の権力を維持するためにエルファバの力を利用しようとしていたのです。
The Wizard is trying to use Elphaba's power to maintain his own power.
この事実に衝撃を受けたエルファバは、彼の提案を拒否します。
Elphaba is shocked by this fact and rejects his proposal.
そして、この選択が彼女をオズ国の「悪い魔女」として世間に追われるきっかけになるのです。
And this choice leads to her being hunted by the public as the Wicked Witch of Oz.
物語はここで大きな転換を迎えます。
The story takes a major turn here.
エルファバは魔法使いに立ち向かうことを決意し、エメラルドシティから逃げ出します。
Elphaba decides to stand up to the Wizard and flees the Emerald City.
一方で、グリンダは自分の信じる「正しい道」を選び、エルファバと袂を分かつ道を選ぶのです。
Glinda, on the other hand, chooses what she believes is the right path and leaves Elphaba.
この決別が、二人の友情の運命を暗示しています。
This parting implies the end of their friendship.
