Complaining About a Service
レストランの店内は静かなざわめきに包まれていた。
The restaurant was filled with a quiet buzz.
ゆっくりとしたBGMが流れる中、美香はテーブルに座り、目の前の冷めたパスタをじっと見つめていた。
With slow background music playing, Mika sat at a table, staring at the cold pasta in front of her.
彼女はため息をつき、ついに重い口を開いた。
She sighed and finally opened her heavy mouth.
「すみません、店員さん。」
"Excuse me, waiter."
美香は手を挙げて近くのスタッフを呼んだ。
Mika raised her hand and called for a nearby staff member.
若い男性店員が小走りで近づいてきた。
A young male waiter approached at a trot.
「はい、どうされましたか？」
"Yes, can I help you?"
「このパスタなんですけど……注文したときは『熱々のミートソース』って書いてあったんですよね。
When I ordered this pasta, it said 'hot meat sauce'.
でも、もう冷たくなってて。」
But it was already cold.
美香はパスタを指さしながら言った。
Mika said so while pointing at the pasta.
声には多少の苛立ちが混じっていたが、なるべく冷静に話そうと努めているのが分かった。
There was some irritation in her voice, but I could tell she was trying to speak as calmly as possible.
店員は一瞬戸惑った表情を浮かべたが、すぐに申し訳なさそうに頭を下げた。
The waiter looked puzzled for a moment, but quickly bowed his head apologetically.
「申し訳ございません。
"I'm sorry."
すぐにお取り替えいたします。」
"I will replace it right away."
「ええ、それともう一つ。」
"Yes, and one more thing."
美香はメニュー表を手に取り、続けた。
Mika picked up the menu list and continued.
「ドリンクもまだ来てないんです。
"The drinks haven't arrived yet."
これ、注文してからもう二十分くらい経ってますよね？」
"It's been about 20 minutes since you ordered these, right?"
「あっ……本当に申し訳ありません。
"I am so sorry."
ただいま確認して、すぐにお持ちします。」
"I'll check it now and bring it to you right away.
店員が深々と頭を下げて去ったあと、美香は隣の友人、沙織に向かって肩をすくめた。
The waiter bowed deeply and left, and Mika shrugged to her friend next to her, Saori.
「こういうこと、たまにあるけど、今日はちょっとひどいね。」
"This kind of thing happens sometimes, but today it's particularly bad."
沙織は苦笑しながら頷いた。
Saori nodded with a wry smile.
「まあ、忙しそうだし、仕方ない部分もあるかもね。
"Well, they seem to be busy, so I guess some of it can't be helped."
でも、美香がちゃんと言ったから、対応はしてくれるんじゃない？」
"But since you made sure to mention it, I'm sure they'll take care of it."
「そうだといいけど。」
"I hope so."
美香は再び冷めたパスタを見つめながら答えた。
Mika replied while staring at the cold pasta again.
「次はもうちょっと気をつけてほしいな。」
"I hope they'll be a little more careful next time."
数分後、店員が新しいパスタと共に戻ってきた。
A few minutes later, the waiter returned with a new plate of pasta.
湯気が立ちのぼる皿を目の前に置きながら、深々と頭を下げる。
He placed the steamy dish in front of her and bowed deeply.
「大変お待たせいたしました。
I apologize for the long wait," he said.
お詫びとしてドリンク代はサービスさせていただきます。」
As an apology, we will be happy to cover the cost of your drink.
美香は驚いた表情を見せたが、すぐに穏やかな笑みを浮かべた。
Mika looked surprised, but immediately smiled calmly.
「ありがとうございます。
Thank you very much.
次からはもう少し気をつけていただけると助かります。」
Next time I would appreciate it if you would be a little more careful."
店員が去ると、美香は沙織に向かってウインクした。
As the waiter left, Mika winked at Saori.
「やっぱり、言わないと何も変わらないよね。」
"After all, nothing will change if you don't say anything, right?"
