The Taxi
タクシーが静かに止まり、ドアが自動で開いた。
The cab came to a quiet stop and the doors opened automatically.
街の夜景が窓に映り込む中、マリコはゆっくりと後部座席に座った。
Mariko slowly sat in the back seat as the city's nightscape reflected in the window.
運転手は白い手袋をした中年の男性で、礼儀正しくミラー越しに微笑んだ。
The driver, a middle-aged man wearing white gloves, smiled politely through the mirror.
「どちらまでですか」と運転手が尋ねる。
"Where to?" the driver asked.
マリコは少し戸惑いながら答えた。
Mariko answered, a little puzzled.
「えっと、新宿駅までお願いします。」
"Um, to Shinjuku station, please."
「かしこまりました。」
"Yes, ma'am."
運転手は静かに車を発進させた。
The driver quietly started the car.
車内には柔らかなラジオの音が流れ、マリコは窓の外に目を向けた。
The soft sound of the radio played inside the car, and Mariko looked out the window.
ビルのネオンが鮮やかに光り、東京の街が忙しそうに動いている。
The neon lights of the buildings were shining brightly and the city of Tokyo was moving busily.
「今日の東京タワーはとてもきれいですね。」
"Tokyo Tower looks so beautiful today."
運転手が会話を始めた。
The driver started a conversation.
「そうですね。
"Yes, it does."
いつも見ても飽きません。」
"I never get tired of seeing it."
マリコは微笑みながら答えた。
Mariko replied with a smile.
「新宿駅までは少し渋滞があるかもしれませんが、急ぎますか？」
"There may be some traffic on the way to Shinjuku station, are you in a hurry?"
「いえ、大丈夫です。
"No, I'm not."
時間はたっぷりあります。」
"I have plenty of time."
マリコは優しく答えた。
Mariko replied gently.
タクシーはスムーズに走り続けた。
The cab continued smoothly.
途中、信号で止まった時、運転手がまた話しかけた。
When the taxi stopped at a traffic light, the driver spoke to her again.
「東京にはお住まいですか？」
"Do you live in Tokyo?"
「いいえ、観光で来ました。
"No, I'm here as a tourist."
大阪からです。」
"I'm from Osaka."
「それはいいですね。
"That's nice."
東京は初めてですか？」
"Is this your first time in Tokyo?"
「はい、でもすごく楽しいです。
"Yes, but I'm really enjoying it."
色々な場所を見て回っています。」
"I'm seeing a lot of places."
「それはよかった。
"I'm glad to hear that."
新宿は夜になると特に活気がありますから、楽しんでください。」
"Shinjuku is especially lively at night, so enjoy yourself."
マリコは運転手の親切な言葉に感謝し、ふと自分の旅行がもっと特別に思えた。
Mariko thanked the driver for his kind words, and suddenly her trip seemed even more special.
タクシーはやがて新宿駅の近くに到着し、ネオンの光が車内を鮮やかに照らした。
The cab eventually arrived near Shinjuku Station, the neon lights brightly illuminating the interior.
「着きました。
"We've arrived."
料金は2,450円です。」
"The fare is 2,450 yen."
マリコは財布を取り出し、お金を手渡した。
Mariko took out her wallet and handed over the money.
「ありがとうございました。
"Thank you very much."
とても快適な旅でした。」
"It was a very pleasant trip."
「こちらこそ、良い旅行をお楽しみください。」
"Thank you very much, and have a pleasant trip."
ドアが静かに開き、マリコは外に出た。
The door opened quietly and Mariko stepped out.
冷たい夜の空気が頬に触れ、彼女は新宿の街に消えていった。
The cold night air touched her cheeks and she disappeared into the streets of Shinjuku.
