低温で、食品等を保管することを目的とした器具。過去には、氷を充填することにより、その目的を果たすものもあったが、現在では、ほぼ電力を利用するもののみとなっており、電気冷蔵庫と同義である。一般には、0℃以上でものを凍らせないものを言い、0℃以下にするものを冷凍庫と言う。
